Designed for the lobbies of New York City’s Time-Life Building, the Eames Turned Stools (1960) or perchers, as Charles and Ray Eames called them serve equally well as elegant side tables or sturdy overflow seating. The stools were inspired by a wooden African seat Ray Eames had purchased. She led their design, drawing upon her training in sculpture to create multiple variations lathed into blocks of solid walnut. The Eameses were so enamored with the stools that they used them throughout their Pacific Palisades home.

The stools also can be used as side tables: Both ends are slightly concave, and either side can serve as the top. These are the authentic Eames Turned Stools by Herman Miller.
